Evaluations

With experience at a variety of levels in his youth career so far, Oliver has gained the tools necessary to play at the next level. He excels in shot stopping, commanding his box, and coming off his line with confidence. He’s strong at collecting crosses in high-traffic areas and shows advanced ball-striking ability for his age, both from the ground and with distribution from his hands.   Oliver’s composure, athleticism and decision-making allow him to impact games defensively while contributing to build-up play. In the classroom, Oliver works hard to maintain good grades, furthering his potential to excel at the next level. — Mackenzie Bellows-Schissel, ScoutU Soccer Scout, Mackenzie@ScoutU.com, 256-283-1160   Oliver has been a lifelong member of the Calgary Rangers, progressing through the club from grassroots into our high-performance environment. I’ve coached Oli as a goalkeeper for several years and have consistently seen his growth as both a player and leader. He has a commanding physical presence, controls his penalty area well, and is a brave, reliable shot-stopper in game moments.   Oli is comfortable in a modern build-out system and excels at line-breaking distribution, showing composure and good decision-making when playing through pressure. Oli is a vocal leader, demands high standards from himself and his teammates, and thrives in a competitive training environment. He loves being challenged and continues to show a strong commitment to improvement, making him a goalkeeper coaches can trust and build around. — Rory Keys, Technical Director, Calgary Rangers Soccer Club

Message from Oliver

My name is Oliver MacLeod, and I’m a 2028 student-athlete at Western Canada High School in Calgary, Alberta. I am 6-foot-1 and weigh 160 lbs. I’ve played goalkeeper since the age of 8, a position I naturally gravitated toward due to my size and presence. Academically, I maintain a 3.3 GPA in a French Immersion Program and intend to pursue studies in business.   At the age of 14, I was selected to join the Cavalry FC pathway and was added to their U21 second team and academy. Training above my age group in a professional environment has accelerated my development. In addition to this training environment, I play for the Calgary Rangers U17s (also as an underage player) in the Alberta Professional Development League (APDL).   As a goalkeeper, I pride myself on being a dependable playmaker from the back. My game is built around elite distribution: consistently finding players’ feet, breaking lines, or clipping balls over the top to start threatening runs. Alongside my technical ability, I bring a strong presence, leadership and fearlessness to the pitch. These attributes, combined with my size and athleticism, led to my selection as one of a limited number of players from my province and age group to participate in the Canada Soccer REX Camp in May 2025.   Being part of the Cavalry FC program at a young age is both an honor and a responsibility that I reflect on daily. Training consistently with older players and first-team athletes pushes me to improve technically, mentally and personally, helping shape me into a tougher and more complete goalkeeper. I take pride in my work ethic and coachability, and after college I plan to play professionally.   Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss your program.
