When ScoutU 2019 softball prospect Sami Cook stepped foot on the campus of Indiana University Southeast for a workout, she felt at home. Now, she will call ISU home for her college career after recently committing to the NAIA school in New Albany, Ind.
“Coach (Joe) Witten and the softball team made me feel very welcomed the day I went and worked out with them,” said Cook, a Jeffersontown (Ky.) High School student and KC Freedom club player. “Additionally, the campus was beautiful, not too big but also not too small. I also liked the fact it was close to home.
“I am very excited to play softball in college as it has been my dream since I changed from baseball to softball when I turned 13. I am looking forward to play at the next level and show my love and passion for the game.” … READ MORE

When some high school athletes go through the recruiting process, they focus on the wrong things when considering colleges. Not 2019 ScoutU softball prospect Jacqueline Holloway.
Holloway, a 5-foot-8, 155-pound right-hand pitcher from Waukesha West High School in Wisconsin, recently committed to play at Saint Xavier University in Chicago, an NAIA school. With a fastball that touches 64 mph, she had the talent to consider NCAA Division I schools, but with a desire to earn a BS degree in nursing and after doing research, she determined that playing Division I was not the right fit for her.
“Jacqueline asked the right questions and had her priorities straight when considering schools she would be interested in,” said ScoutU Head Scout Jason Lauren, who helped Holloway with her recruiting. “As all athletes should, she put academic fit at the top of her list when looking at schools.” … READ MORE

ScoutU 2019 prospect Alyssa Stillman proved that all-conference awards do not always reflect who the most talented players are when she recently verbally committed to play softball at the University of Minnesota Crookston, an NCAA Division II school.
Stillman did not earn all-conference honors as a junior at Hortonville High School in Wisconsin, but UMC coach Travis Owen noticed her abilities, which include a 70 mph bat exit speed. Stillman — who played third base at Hortonville and was recruited to play middle infield at Crookston — did have a solid junior season, batting .389 with five home runs and 20 RBI. She also had a stellar 2018 club season with the Midwest Glory, playing SS, 2B and OF with a .403 batting average, three home runs and 23 RBIs and facing some of the top travel ball teams in the country.
“Alyssa is a pure hitter,” said ScoutU Head Scout Jason Lauren, who helped Stillman with her recruiting. “I’ve always said, ‘If you’re good, you’re good’ and college coaches always notice talent and potential over stats and all-conference awards. Alyssa has a quick bat through the zone and drives the ball well. She has very good range and is versatile in that she can play multiple positions.” … READ MORE
Muench commits to Saginaw Valley State

There are kids that have a good head on their shoulders and then there’s Alyssa Muench. Muench’s work ethic, dedication and maturity all played large parts in her recent commitment to play softball at Saginaw Valley State University, an NCAA Division II school in Saginaw, Mich. All of those characteristics can in large part be traced back to her older sister, Lindsay, 21, who has been in a wheelchair almost her entire life with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Muench looks up to her big sister and is someone who has taught her many valuable life lessons. “I just realized the fact that any day that we can lose everything that we have,” said Muench, a 2019 grad from Campbellsport (Wis.) High School. “I play everyday as hard as I can, because tomorrow I know I may not have the same shot. She’s never been able to do it, but she’s playing soccer now, and she’s never given up, so that’s how I live – to never give up. “She’s an inspiration, because she lives every day to the fullest.
